Alex is a certified dog trainer with the IAABC-ADT (International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants – Accredited Dog Trainer) and an ANWI (Associate Nose Work Instructor) through the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW), working toward full CNWI certification. She has a bachelor’s degree in biocultural anthropology, completed her master’s thesis on working dog behavior, and holds a certificate in Applied Animal Behavior from the University of Washington. Her work focuses on helping sensitive and high-arousal dogs build confidence and resilience through scent work, enrichment, and clear communication with their handlers.
Alex joined the 4-H Dog Project with her Australian Shepherd, Maggie, when she was 11 years old and quickly fell in love with the world of dog behavior, particularly high-drive working breeds. She is also a registered yoga instructor, which supports her interest in helping others understand and process stress. Alex volunteered at the Humane Society for several years and helped raise puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
She now participates in a variety of activities with her brilliant and sensitive Australian Shepherd, Max, including rally obedience, agility, nose work, herding, and barn hunt.
