The Canny Collar is a hugely popular head collar to prevent pulling, made by UK's Canny Company. Imagine a pleasant walk, where your dog never pulled on leash again!
I first heard of the Canny Collar at an APDT conference in 2006, though a trainer friend who does TTouch said she's liked the Canny Collar for a long time. Once I finally got around to trying the Canny Collar on my own dog, I was hooked, so now we're selling them!
The Canny Collar is a head collar that gives you all of the control of traditional head collars, but has three features that we love.
The leash clips at the back of the dog's head on the Canny Collar, so your dog won't get a paw stuck in it.
Second, the Canny Collar works by pressing the nose *down* when the dog pulls, not twisting the dog's head. That's one reason that the Canny Collar doesn't press into the dog's eyes, as some collars can. (The shape of the dog's head makes this more of a problem for sighthounds, for example). That feature means that the Canny Collar is a great collar for short-nosed breeds, like Boxers and Bulldogs, though there still has to be enough nose to put the nose band on.
Third, the Canny Collar is a BEEFY head collar. When walking aggressive dogs, this is a big concern. The Canny Collar is a strong, 1" collar, with some other bits attached for extra control. It's the first head collar I've had Sagan wear without some kind of extra safety clip, in case it fell off. The Canny Collar won't come off, since the bulk of it is a regular collar.
Canny Collar sizes are based on the size of your dog's neck. Measure precisely - the Canny Collar needs to be fairly snug around your dog's neck. We have three sizes of Canny Collar for you to order. If you would like to order a different size of Canny Collar, please email us using the contact form.
Before your dog wears the Canny Collar for a regular walk, you should get your dog used to having a head collar on. See our blog article. How to Get Your Dog Comfortable in a Head Collar.
