Growly Dog 2

Growly Dog 2 is for owners who have mastered the Growly Dog skills and who want to move further.

Growly Dog 2 is a 4-week, 4-dog class for owners who have mastered the skills from Growly Dog and whose dogs are ready to move a little further towards socializing with other dogs. In this class, we will spend time in all 4 weeks conducting BAT set ups.

Prerequisites:

Owners must have experience using a marker (e.g. a clicker, or the word “yes) to identify when their dog has noticed another dog, before they begin barking and lunging. They should also be able to use the leash to stop their dog gently and have a fairly good understanding of what their dog’s triggers are.

Dogs must have a reactivity threshold of 50 feet or less without barking or lunging. Within that distance they should be sufficiently relaxed that they can perform some basic obedience behaviors (and ideally, they should be comfortable enough to take treats).

If you’ve taken Growly Dog but you’re not sure if you’re ready for Growly 2, feel free to ask your instructor, give us a phone call or email, or use our contact form to check if Growly 2 is right for you. Dogs must have completed Growly Dog class or private training AND have permission from their instructor prior to signing up for Growly 2.

If your dog reacts aggressively toward people, then you and your dog will need private behavior sessions instead of the class.

Goals of this class:

  • Shrink the bubble – help each dog become comfortable around other dogs at gradually smaller distances
  • Teach you how and when to incorporate a longer leash into your set ups to improve the training
  • Teach you different variations of BAT set ups to help generalize calm behavior around triggers in a variety of contexts and situations
  • Teach you the skills to orchestrate your own training set ups to speed up the rehabilitation process

How it works:

At the start of each class, people will leave their dogs in their cars while they check in and have questions answered by the trainer. After check-ins, we will spend roughly 45 minutes doing BAT set ups outside, with the dog pairs arranged by the trainer. At the end of class we will have a short wrap up to address any questions or issues that came up over the course of the training.
