Rally Obedience Class in SeattleDates TBA. Please email Grisha if you are interested in Rally.
Looking for something to do with your dog as a team in Seattle? Rally Obedience is a great dog sport, because it doesn't require much equipment, except jumps at more advanced levels, but it does encourage you to train regularly with your dog, until you become a fluid team. Rally is easier on the joints than agility, so it makes a great 'retirement' sport for agility dogs. Rally Obedience is a dog sport that's a bit more loose and fun than traditional competition obedience. In Rally competitions, the handler and their dog walk as a team through a course of several stations (10-20) to show off their skills. The "heel position" is slightly less strict than regular dog obedience, but the dog and person should look like a team throughout the course. Depending on the level, the dogs compete on or off leash. With Rally Obedience (or "Rally O," as it's called), you can talk to your dog for praise or instructions as they walk along, rather than being silent, as you would have to do with regular obedience. Other scoring rules are also relaxed for Rally O, but harsh commands or intimidating signals are penalized. Your dog should know how to sit, lie down, come, and heel (fairly well) to join our Rally Obedience sessions in Seattle.
While many organizations only allow purebred dogs to compete in Rally Trials, the Rally O class at Ahimsa is for all breeds and mixes of dogs. You can read more about Rally Obedience on the AKC website.
