Getting a puppy is a big deal! Puppies are lovely little furballs that warm your heart and your home. They also destroy things, pee on the floor, and keep people up at night. Not to mention the chewing on hands and feet!
Never, ever get a puppy from a pet store. Choose the breeder very carefully. There are plenty of articles on the web for how to find such a breeder, but at least read this article from the Humane Society: How to Find a Good Dog Breeder.
Also note that for many people, an older dog is the best choice. It’s calmer, most adapt quickly, are usually housetrained, and you can get back to living your life – newly augmented with canine love – much more quickly than you can with a puppy.
