Clicker Trained Dogs take over Christmas!

This amazing video was made by a group of clicker trainers in Hungary. Just look at how happy and excited the dogs are.  They are really enjoying themselves! They’re also doing complex tasks from a distance.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, if you love dogs, you’ll enjoy watching these well-trained dogs and appreciate the power of clicker training!

I can’t see the humans in the video, so I can’t be sure, but my guess is that the clickers aren’t even present any more by the time the dog’s did this performance. At any rate, the clickers don’t *make* the dogs do anything.

Clickers are for training, not for performance – they allow the human to precisely mark when the behavior was done correctly, and tell the dog they’ve earned a reward. Think of a click meaning “Well done!” The cues for these dogs to perform isn’t the clicker, but rather something like, “Roll the Rug” or “Go to the Chair” in Hungarian. The clicker doesn’t need to be there any more for the dog to work – it just helps the human train faster!
