Hi Denise,

Best of luck on your trainer search for a trainer that does CAT. The Association of Pet Dog Trainers website is a good starting point. Most positive dog trainers that handle aggression do some version of Counter-conditioning & Desensitization, which is also dog-friendly.

I'm not a trainer, just a pet owner with an newly dog-dog aggressive wheaten terrier. She has become really nasty with the 10 pound mini schnauzer we rescued 6 months ago who is ultra-submissive. This is a complete flip in her former behavior, so the idea of treating agression with agression didn't make sense to me. Your explanation of the technique clarified my dog's behavior, she wants the other dogs to back off. I am hopeful I can find a trainer to use this technique close to me, or I will get the materials and try myself. Thanks for posting!

Grisha,
Thanks for taking the time to explain in simple terms what CAT envolves. And how you were able to apply it in your own situation.
Sincerely,
Terri Sidell
