April 2008 Newsletter

Hi folks! In May, I’m going to redesign several of the classes, including Puppy & the Basic and Better Manners classes. If you have taken any of those classes and are interested in helping us teach more effectively, I’d love your feedback. I need ideas on what you liked as well as what you didn’t. If you didn’t finish the class, why not? If you continued to the next class, why? Were you happy that you did? Just reply to this email with ideas. Thanks!

Videos?! Do you have any You-Tube or other videos (with your own dog) that might be good for us to display on the Ahimsa site? Let me know! I’d like to put some on the testimonials page.

Upcoming Events:

* Fraidy Dog workshop – Now’s the time to get ready for Fireworks!

We have a workshop coming up for rehabilitating fearful dogs. This is for dogs that are afraid of something – people, other dogs, thunder, fireworks, etc. The Fraidy Dog workshop will be held on Monday, May 5th, 7:15-8:30 p.m. The cost is $50.

You can sign up at http://tinyurl.com/3qlok2

* Coming When Called workshop

Bring your long line to practice coming when called around other dogs. Suggest it to your friends who’ve missed out on our classes! Workshop will be held on Monday, May 5th, 5:45-7:00 p.m. The cost is $50. You can sign up at http://tinyurl.com/3qlok2

* Training Practice – it’s free!

Don’t forget the free training practice lesson for all current and past students – anyone who has taken a 6 week class with Ahimsa can drop into this session. No session 5/5, but it’s usually Monday nights at 7:15. See the regular training class schedule for skip dates.

* Intermediate Puppy
Keep up your puppy’s training through the Terrible Teens! The next classes start this Saturday at 5 p.m. and Wednesday, 4/30 at 5:15. $150 for 6 weeks. Sign up at http://tinyurl.com/3chku5

* Advanced Puppy starts 5/10
Need your adolescent to listen to you OFF LEASH? This is the class for you. The class is run almost entirely off leash. Your puppy may not listen well off leash when you start, but will be much better when you’re done! Sign up at http://tinyurl.com/35tqae

* Green Lake Fluency Field trip starts 4/28

Fluency Field Trips are advanced Real World training for your dog. This one meets at Green Lake. It’s loads of fun and practical training. We focus on heel, come, sit/stay, and wait (emergency stop). Advanced Puppy or Better Manners are required for this class, so if you haven’t taken those yet, sign up today!
